Varvet 06

First time running Göteborgsvarvet, the world's largest half marathon. The city of Gothenburg turns into a celebration, with crowds cheering along the entire race. This time, there was sun most of the time with occasional rain.

The course isn't flat, featuring around 170 meters of elevation gain. It starts in Slottsskogen and takes you through the beautiful city park, then into the Majorna district. From there, you cross the river on one bridge, followed by a long, flat stretch along the riverside at Eriksberg. Finally, you arrive at Frihamnen, where you cross the river again on a second bridge. The bridges offer great views and a sense of open space, but they can also expose you to strong headwinds or tailwinds. Then, the course is packed with people cheering along Avenyn all the way to the final stretch, culminating in a fabulous finish on the tracks at the arena. Well done to everyone signing up and showing up yesterday.

For many people, racing is a way to maintain consistency. For others, it can have the opposite effect, creating too much stress. Make sure to do what works best for you.

Here are some snapshots from my half marathon day.
