When you experience an acute onset of pain or injury, is it due to trauma, or could it be the result of accumulated stress, like the straw that broke the camel's back? Sports injuries have traditionally been classified as acute or overuse based on their onset and associated circumstances. However, a recent review by Bas Van Hooren examines the topic from a different perspective.

“Hamstring strains and ACL injuries may not solely be acute injuries but could also be considered as overuse injuries. Reassessing these injuries through the lens of overuse provides an opportunity to explore monitoring tissue-level loading using wearable technology. By combining data on load and tissue damage with insights into remodeling processes, this perspective could offer new approaches to injury prevention strategies.”
