Uncertainty

I love research because it reveals the complexity of knowledge and the endless questions it inspires. ​ It has taught me that true expertise lies in embracing uncertainty and recognizing there is always more to learn. ​

This contrasts sharply with the Dunning-Kruger effect, where limited knowledge leads to overconfidence and the assertion of absolute "truths." I often encounter this, and it makes me wary of those who present their views as definitive, leaving no room for doubt or discussion. Unwavering confidence often signals a lack of depth in understanding, despite appearing convincing.

I’m inspired by those who embrace complexity, explore nuances, weigh pros and cons, welcome different perspectives, and confidently say, “I don’t know”. True understanding comes from asking the right questions, embracing complexity, and valuing humility and curiosity over certainty. ​

Remain open to the possibility that you could be wrong. ​
